Stempel AG redesigned and digitized the “Neue Helvetica” typeface for Linotype and made it a self-contained font family. Over the years, Helvetica was expanded to include many different weights, but these were not coordinated with each other. The original letterforms of Helvetica had to be modified for the Linotype system. It forms an integral part of many printers and operating systems. It also got me to think more about the principles of animation, which I think will definitely help me with all types of animation in the future.This typeface, designed by Max Miedinger and other project members at the Haas’sche Schriftgiesserei, has become one of the most famous and popular typefaces in the world, thanks to the marketing strategy of Stempel and Linotype.

Because I animate to a story narrative normally, sometimes I forget to experiment with the software and this project has allowed me to explore the different techniques I can use in After Effects and Illustrator especially. Learning all of these new techniques also helped me to come up with my final idea.
This module taught me a lot of new techniques which really helped me to get my final result. I think I was a little worried earlier in the project, as it seemed that others had a lot going on in their scenes, whilst mine is quite sparse, however now that I have the finished piece, I am happy with the way it looks and I am glad I didn't over complicate it. I ended up with the font 'gravity' which suited the scene much more that the original Helvetica Neue font. I went onto dafont and tried to find a text which fit with my scene. Then I also had to change the text font at the end of the scene. Also originally when I had my heads they had outlines, which didn't fit in with the rest of the scene which did not, so I changed them slightly and added gradients on the eyes to make eyelids. To add a little bit more movement to the scene I added in lines that moved before the earth then disappeared. I changed the way I had the earth enter the scene, originally I had them enter and exit in the same way. There were several things I had to change in the making of my animation. The one bad thing about the colour is that the butterfly and the world merge a little bit, I think I needed to add more colour to my colour palette.
I also think that the colours in the scene match the tone I wanted the scene to bring, quite light hearted. It worked out a lot better that I was expecting it to, the movement turned out to be quite smooth. However, I am most proud of the movement I got from the butterfly. My peers like the design, which was comforting, I had tried to keep it similar to the colours to the Pappion website colours. That is something that I am really proud of. I think that this piece turned out quite well, especially the butterfly. This time I wanted to try and challenge myself by thinking more about trying to use the techniques I had learnt. Usually, I work making animations with a narrative, so the animation has more of a story theme to it. It was a little different than I am used to.
